The materials
Cork flooring is made from the bark of the cork oak. According to APCOR, the Portuguese Cork Association, the bark may be harvested no more often than every nine years, and the tree is never cut down to do it. Underfoot cork is warm, quiet, and slightly cushioned, which makes it a favorite for kitchens, home offices, and playrooms. Cork naturally resists mold, mildew, and insects, and it insulates against sound and cold. It needs a good finish coat and periodic resealing, and it can dent under heavy furniture without protectors. It comes in tiles and floating planks.
Real linoleum is made from linseed oil, pine resin, wood flour, and pigments on a jute backing. It is not vinyl. Forbo’s Marmoleum is the best-known line: durable, easy to clean, and available in colors and patterns that vinyl cannot match. Forbo reports that Marmoleum holds the Allergy UK Seal of Approval, which matters to families managing allergies. Marmoleum suits kitchens, laundry rooms, mudrooms, and commercial spaces.
Wool carpet is renewable, naturally soil- and stain-resistant, flame-resistant, and resilient enough to recover from furniture marks. It costs more than synthetics and repays it in lifespan and feel. Rubber flooring in rolls, tiles, or mats is made largely from recycled tires and is the standard for home gyms, playrooms, basements, and workshops. It is waterproof, cushioned, quiet, and nearly indestructible. It is not a living-room floor, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Our crews install every eco-friendly floor we sell. Cork and Marmoleum need a flat, dry subfloor and the correct adhesive or click system; both benefit from a professional finish coat. Wool carpet installs like any carpet over the right pad. Rubber is loose-laid or glued depending on the product. Care is simple: sweep, damp-mop with a neutral cleaner, and reseal cork and Marmoleum on the schedule the manufacturer recommends.
